A high-rise 18-storey wooden house in Toronto .
Аrchitectural bureau Penda offered an unconventional project to build a wooden residential house in Toronto. This 18-storey building made from wooden three-dimensional modules, designed according to a modular pattern, is covered with trees and other plants as if they were growing directly from the house itself.
The house in Toronto has an area of 4500m² and 550m² of public space which includes a cafe, a childcare centre and premises for community service. The structural concept of the building is based completely on the use of multi-layered wooden panels manufactured according to the state-of-the-art CLT technology.
Timber is also used for the facing of the exterior walls of the building and the trees grow directly from spacious balconies. In the opinion of the authors of the project this solution creates an interesting visual contrast against the background of the customary urban environment, representing a mix of steel, glass and concrete. A wooden house in Finland made according to CLT technology
In Finland in 2015, the first wooden multi-storey residential house was built. The base of the house structure is formed by multi-layered wooden panels made according to CLT technology. This is the first multi-storey residential house in the country and one of the world’s first examples of multi-storey housing on the basis of CLT technology. The house was assembled from factory-made modules which were installed similarly to a Lego® construction set.
Оne of the world’s tallest houses with a wooden weight-bearing frame
The French architect Jean-Paul Viguier won the contest for developing the design of a new residential and office complex in Bordeaux. The complex that was called “Hyperion” with the total area of 17,000m² comprises 82 apartments and offices. It will consist of three blocks with load-bearing constructions made of wood. The 18-storey residential tower, which is part of the complex, will become the tallest wooden building in the world.
Project of the first wooden skyscraper in London
The architectural bureau, PLP Architecture, have announced the conceptual design of building of an 80-storey skyscraper in London with a height of 300m. Following rising growing trend the project developers decided to use a timber frame as the constructional frame of the building.
The highest wooden building in New York
The architectural bureau SHoP Architects developed the design of a 10-storey residential house in New York. The land is located in one of the exclusive areas in Manhattan, opposite the High Line park. The constructional base of the building is a timber frame. This is currently the tallest wooden building in New York. It is expected that the building will comprise 15 apartments with two, three and four bedrooms.
The hall of the museum of arts in Beijing
A lecture hall has been created in the museum of arts in Beijing; its interior represents a fancy combination of wooden arches, counter arches, mirror walls and ceilings. The hall has been designated for hosting small exhibitions, art salons, organization of lecturers and meetings.
The use of arches has become a signature line of the architectural bureau Penda. The authors of the project look upon the arches not only as structural components, but also as a sign, a symbol that invites visitors to enter the hall space. The mirror walls and ceilings and the arches are reflected many times creating an integrated space that combines reality and imagination.
Project of a timber-panel theatre in Montpellier (France)
The project of the new building for the theatre of Jeane-Claude Carriere in Montpellier (France) has been created to obtain the ultimate harmony with the environment, it has high energy-efficiency properties and a unique outer design. The building structure consists only of multi-layered laminated timber panels.
Alpine house from timber laminated panels
A one-family residential house in Bolzano (Italy), made from timber laminated panels, is located in a typical Alpine landscape with traditional terraced slopes. The general arrangement of the house is designed as a simple shaped volume with a longitudinal gallery and a breathtaking view of the surrounding landscape.
The new Google headquarters in London
Google has started building its giant headquarters in the very heart of London. The total area of the complex is 1 million square foot (93,000m²). The constructional base of the building is composed of timber multi-layered laminated panels combined with a steel framework. The total construction cost is approximately £1 billion.
A 40-storey wooden office building
Аrchitectural bureau CEI Architecture has developed a project to build a 40-storey office building, installing a hybrid pattern which combines wooden and reinforced concrete constructions. In this case, the main objective is to maximize the use of timber.
A 34-storey wooden skyscraper in Stockholm
In the design of a 34-storey residential tower, all walls, columns, beams, and floor slabs are made from wooden structural components. The inner core of the building is made from reinforced concrete. Every apartment has a glazed energy efficient terrace and on the roof of the house solar batteries have been installed.
